This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending CoastCon in Gulfport, Mississippi. Our friend Jason was the Fan Guest of Honor this year, and it was also mine and Doug’s wedding anniversary, so we decided to spend the weekend on the Gulf Coast with plenty of friends.
I was also asked to do a panel on steampunk, so thanks to more than a few members in the LiveJournal Steamfashion community, I was able to create a very nice presentation with plenty of gorgeous pictures to talk to.
Since I felt that I needed to dress the part, I pulled out some very special pieces to wear at the convention. I was trying to go for a sort of “riding outfit” look.

The breakdown:
Hat – bought from a vendor at MobiCon two years ago. Added the cameo and peacock feathers in the back.
Parasol – Gail’s Octopus Parasol from Clockwork Couture. (I can’t tell you how many people were like “OH MY GOSH please tell me where I can get one”. Of course, I told!)
Goggles – from Amazon, metal screens from Neverwas Haul on Etsy
Blue blouse and belt – JCPenney
Pinstriped Corset – Meschantes Corsetry
Steampunk “pockets” – Alt.Kilt on Etsy
Skirt – custom Theatre skirt from Scoundrelle’s Keep
Boots – Ravenna from Duo Boots
Underneath the skirt I am wearing bloomers from myjoyfuldesign on Etsy, and striped black/cream tights from We Love Colors (before they changed their sizing…I’m so sad they don’t make them in my size anymore)
The presentation went well, and I met quite a few really great people after the panel who sat around and chatted with me about costumes, steampunk, etc.
Later in the day, I enrolled in the costume contest in the same ensemble. See, I’ve volunteered at many local conventions, helped run some, and attended too many to count – but one thing I’ve never done is participate in the costume contest. There were quite a few excellent outfits there, so I wasn’t expecting to win. It was more of a “I want to do this just once” sort of thing.
I never expected to win Best In Show.

Mistress Margali and I after the contest.
You’ll have to forgive my expression in the above pic. I was more than a little giddy.
Will anyone be attending MobiCon in May? It’s in Mobile, Alabama, May 20-22. I believe there is a steampunk meetup in the works…
